Inio Asano needs no introduction to fans of the Seinen genre. From ‘Goodnight Punpun’ to ‘Solanin,’ Asano’s beautiful art style and captivating stories have mesmerized fans for a long time. With a soaring demand for adaptations of Asano’s works, fans are finally getting their wish fulfilled. ‘Dead Dead Demon’s Dededede Destruction’ is finally receiving an anime adaptation.
Inio Asano’s ‘Dead Dead Demon’s Dededede Destruction,’ often referred to as ‘DDDD,’ was first serialized in Shogakukan’s Big Comic Spirits in 2014. With a total of 12 tankobon volumes, the manga concluded in February 2022.
In January 2021, the series received the Best General Manga award at the 66th Shogakukan Manga Awards, and in 2022, it was honored in the manga category at the 25th Japan Media Arts Festival Awards. In March 2022, GAGA Communications announced an anime adaptation based on the series.
On August 30, 2023, the official website confirmed that “Dededede,” which was announced to be animated in March 2022, will ultimately hit theaters in the spring of 2024, with two chapters preceding and following it. A super teaser visual, drawn by character designer and principal animation director Nobutaka Ito, has been released to commemorate the film’s debut.
The anime is being produced by +h, with a talented team in control. The films are directed by Tomoyuki Kurokawa (known for ‘Psychic Detective Yakumo,’ ‘Break of Dawn,’ and ‘Dragonar Academy’), and the series scripts are written and overseen by Reiko Yoshida (noted for ‘A Silent Voice,’ ‘Violet Evergarden,’ and ‘Tamako Market’).
The character designer and main animation director is Nobutaka Ito (known for ‘The Tatami Galaxy,’ ‘Kaiba,’ and ‘Kemonozume’). The art director is Mika Nishimura (associate art director for ‘Dorohedoro’), and the music is composed by Taro Umebayashi (known for ‘Space Dandy’ in both seasons and ‘Yuri!!! on Ice’). As of the time of writing this article, no information about the cast members has been unveiled yet.

The story revolves around high schooler Kadode Koyama and her best friend Ouran Nakagawa. Aliens invaded Tokyo three years ago, and nothing has been the same since. However, even imminent disaster becomes mundane after a while. Three years after the invasion, the Japanese Self Defense Forces are still searching for a strategy to battle the oncoming extraterrestrial danger, but conventional weaponry has had little effect on the mothership.
Kadode Koyama and her best friend obsessively follow the aliens’ movements on social media while studying for college entrance exams. They learn to take things one step at a time as the end of the world approaches.
