From January through July 2023, Nier: Automata Ver1.1a’s first season was broadcast on television. Due to COVID-19 pandemic-related production concerns, the series’ broadcast was delayed twice. After the third episode, the anime experienced its first delay, which was followed by a second delay after the eighth episode. On July 23, the final four episodes were eventually aired in order.

On July 23, it was officially announced that NieR: Automata Ver 1.1a will return for a second cour. A special promo features a glimpse of what the anime will deliver in the second cour.
NieR: Automata Anime Cour 2 Release Date
Since NieR: Automata Ver 1.1a Second Cour is in production, the official release date has not been confirmed yet. The studio responsible for producing the series, studio A-1 Picture, is currently busy with production on several projects like Hypnosis Mic, Solo Leveling, and Fate/Strange Fake. By assuming the period of the production cycle, NieR: Automata Anime Cour 2 is expected to be released in late 2024.
What to Expect from NieR Automata Anime Cour 2
From the glimpse of what we have seen in the promotional video, the second cour will feature Route C, D, and hopefully E from the game where the androids launch an all-out attack on the machine network.
Despite the first cour making many changes from the game, we can expect the second cour to flesh out the dark atmosphere of the game’s Route C and D. This cour is also expected to focus more on A2 and the truth behind the war between machines and androids.
