We have recently noticed people demanding a new season of Darling in the franxx a lot. Although it came out in 2018, the popularity of the anime still holds up and it is no surprise that people are still wanting a second season even after four years, but however this might not be possible to get a second season, or rather a direct sequel of darling in the franxx. As you all know that darling in the franxx takes place in a post-apocalyptic Earth where Creatures known as Klaxosaurs have emerged from the Earth to wreak havoc and in response, APE, the sinister organization leading what’s left of mankind, built mobile cities called Plantations to protect the population. In turn, these Plantations are protected by giant mechs called Franxx, which are piloted in pairs by children. The show follows one such pilot named Hiro, who volunteers to become the new partner – AKA “darling” – of the mysterious Zero Two after her co-pilot is killed. The story resembles a lot to the legendary anime neon genesis evangelion but still got praise for its intriguing characters and fast-paced action. However, the anime also got criticised for taking a downward turn in second half of the season and for silly plot twist and rushed pace. Despite that darling in the franxx still holds a huge popularity which is proved by its continuous demand for second season.
As for the expectations for a new season, the conclusive finale of the first season makes a possibility for a sequel hardly possible. Now this segment holds a huge spoiler so if you haven’t watched darling in the franxx by now, watch this part at your own risk. In the season finale, Hiro and Zero Two sacrifice themselves to save the Earth, reincarnate and meet as children, and live in a world where humanity thrives. And after the Parasites vow to never again use Magma Energy and the Klaxosaurs return underground, the Parasites spend eight years restoring the planet back to a much more habitable and prosperous place. Thus, the final episode leaves no chance of having a direct sequel for the anime. So, it is likely possible that the fans might never get a season two.
However, despite the ending of darling in the franxx season 1 is a proper tribute to the foundational philosophical sci-fi stories that inspired the anime, the manga diverts from the anime from volume 4 onwards, and this could conceivably lay the groundwork for Darling In The Franxx season 2, set in an alternate reality beginning where the manga diverges. So, it won’t be wise for the fans to give up hope yet.
