So, Hunter x Hunter has finally returned with its latest chapter being released on October 24, 2022. As you already know that the author of Hunter Hunter Yoshihiro Togashi had been suffering from severe mental health issues and physical issues. The manga had been on a constant hiatus for nearly four years. By then, many fans got impatient and was worried if the manga would ever end. As a matter of fact, many people started to mock the series by calling it Hiatus Hiatus. But to majority of the fans as well as me, hold the series close to their hearts. So, we would hope that Togashi would recover and finally finish his beloved manga. After the hiatus from November 2018, in April 2022 Togashi teased the return of Hunter Hunter on twitter.
Previously a photo of an edge of manga sketch surfaced on twitter which immediately got over 800,000 likes and 200,000 retweets, but it was not yet confirmed if those sketches were done by Togashi himself. Shortly after, the artist of One Punch Man Murata confirmed that the account was not a fake, saying he was “with the man himself.” Since then, fans have been waiting eagerly for the next update.
Finally on 11 October, the official Japanese Weekly Shonen Jump Twitter account tweeted that Shonen jump magazine would publish new chapters from October 24, 2022. Togashi stated that he has managed to complete as many as ten new chapters and that is enough for us, the fans. Even after all these years, Hunter Hunter is considered to be the best shounen series of all time with amazing story, characters, world building and fight sequences. Although the anime first aired in 1999, a rebooted and somewhat up to date with the manga was aired in 2011 which contained a total of 148 episodes. Basically, the anime of 2011 was the main factor behind the huge popularity of the series. The anime had covered up to chapter 339 of the 13th Hunter Chairman Election arc. After that, the manga had published Dark continent’s expedition arc with 8 chapters only.
Currently the manga is on Succession war arc which we are hoping to see to be finished this month. As the fans are hoping for new anime, it might take a while considering the amount of available source material and the number of episodes the season will contain. Given the chance that a new season of Hunter Hunter is really renewed, it might be possible to get a 12 episodes long season which doesn’t sound such a bad deal. But let us not be greedy wait patiently for the next update.
On August 26, the official twitter account of Togashi Exhibit shared a 15 second short trailer. The trailer appeared to be some sort of puzzle like pieces with Gon and Kurapika from Hunter Hunter and Yusuke from Yu Yu Hakusho at the centre. It featured several artworks of Togashi himself from Yu Yu Hakusho and Hunter Hunter. Although Yu Yu Hakusho had ended in the 90s, Netflix is making a live action this year, also Hunter Hunter manga is returning from a long break. There appeared to some new arts of Togashi which have picked the interest of fans and they’re waiting eagerly to know about it more.
As we have already mentioned Togashi is still suffering from health issues, and he is trying his best to recover. Even in the tweets he mentioned about how he has trouble holding pain with pain. It is no secret about Japan’s unethical work culture in the manga industry and Togashi had suffered pretty bad for it. When he finished Yu yu Hakusho, he suffered mental breakdown and while working on Hunter Hunter he finally had enough and caused him to take a long hiatus to recover. Hunter x Hunter Getting a New Anime Trailer!
On the 13th of October, we got some leaks from the next issue of weekly shonen jump magazine which confirms that Hunter Hunter is getting a new anime trailer that will feature Gon and Killua. It will be released on the 28th of October, and it will be available on the official YouTube channel of Jump comics. It is still not clear what this new trailer is going to be about. Does it mean that the anime is returning? Or is it just to celebrate the return of the manga? We can’t say. We have to wait till the trailer drops to find out.
